Waist-Deep

One of my professors is from Germany. He told us a story about his days in Miami where he would have to trudge through waist-deep water to get to his work field. This is because Florida can have elevations of a "staggering" 4-5 ft above sea level, so the water has nowhere to drain. If you ask me, it's poor road design and engineering on Florida's part, but from what I've seen of the state, its highway systems aren't too impressive, either.

And then there were the alligators and the parking spots. If you aren't careful, you might park your car where it will flood later, resulting in mold and water-logged parts. The rain, he said, isn't like the normal showers you might experience. It's like dumping buckets of warm water on top of you. Ah, what a place to live.
