Description

When I was over in Japan, due to the ban of tourism to Taiwan, most Chinese folks were traveling to Japan instead. Coupled among them were fellow Hong Kong tourists. When I was in Kyoto, a Hong Kong dude started jaywalking across a street to bypass the traffic, but his friend started yelling at him shouting in Cantonese, "Hey, don't jaywalk! People will think we're from the mainland!" 

As you might've guessed, mainlanders aren't thought of very fondly. (By the way, my mom's from the mainland, and she agrees with this sentiment.)

Unless someone has spent enough time to recognize a difference, they might mistake Cantonese for Mandarin and end up getting mistaken for a Mainlander anyway, though. ^^;
